Bio
Booker Brooks' music is eclectic yet familiar. Influenced by artists who stretch the boundaries of genre such as Bon Iver, Phoebe Bridgers and Ben Howard, Brooks stirs the perfect blend of novelty and simplicity. Originally from Christchurch, New Zealand, his upcoming album “One Way Ticket” was born out of the experience of travel. After living in Melbourne, Australia from 2018-2020, and later deciding to see the world by playing music on a cruise ship in 2020, the turbulence of movement birthed multiple artistic endeavours. During his time on the ship, he released the single "Round The World" written and recorded on the guest-less cruise ship during Covid-19, along with a documentary outlining the unique experience. With no lack of time, he recorded a whole EP called “Time Can’t Wait" onboard and released this in 2021. He then went on to start creating his debut album, releasing his first single "Childs mind" in December 2022.
"Sober" is a powerful song about letting go of a toxic relationship and using sobriety as a metaphor for self-respect. The song is a testament to Brooks' ability to deliver honest and vulnerable lyrics. "Being aware of the effects of a toxic relationship in my life has been an important mechanism for growth. This meant reframing and managing my relationship with my thought patterns, food, alcohol, people, and exercise," Brooks explains.
